Abstract: The main purpose of this study was to explore the approaches used for teaching of grammar in lower secondary level of private schools. This study was carried out among five English teachers of private schools. I have collected the data using two main techniques of data collection; classroom observation and interviews. The findings of this research showed that the teachers were following deductive approach for teaching of grammar although they all believed that inductive is the most appropriate one. Most of them responded positively about the effectiveness of teaching materials and communicative tasks in the language classroom; however they were not practicing in their classroom. They also revealed some issues related to grammar and grammar teaching in EFL classroom. According to them, traditional form-focused assessment system, first language interferences, insufficient time for teaching and practicing grammar, boredom in course completion, students’ low language proficiency, and congested classroom are the major problems for teaching grammar effectively.
